SUMMARY:Music in The Country 2024 | The Lone Bellow with Special Guest\, Jacob Vanko & Taylor Ashton
DESCRIPTION:General Information\n\n$35.00 per ticket in advance; $40 at the door\nChildren 12 and under are free\nGates open at 1:00\nJacob Vanko at 1:30\nTaylor Ashton at 2:30\nThe Lone Bellow at 4:00\nFood trucks\nBYOB\nAll net proceeds benefit the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore\n\nClick Here to Purchase Tickets \nHeadliner – The Lone Bellow\nSpotify\nX\nInstagram\nFacebook\nYouTube \nThe Lone Bellow burst onto the scene with their self-titled debut in 2013. The Brooklyn-based band quickly became known for their transcendent harmonies\, serious musicianship and raucous live performance — a reputation that earned them their rabid fan base. It’s been three years since the band’s victorious Then Came The Morning was released. Produced by The National’s Aaron Dessner\, the album was nominated for an Americana Music Award. The band appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live\,” “Late Show With David Letterman\,” “Conan O’Brien\,” “CBS This Morning\,” “Later…with Jools Holland\,” and “The Late Late Show With James Corden” in support of the album. In the years since the release\, the band left their beloved adopted home of Brooklyn and moved to Nashville. Now\, The Lone Bellow is back with Walk Into A Storm\, which will be released Sept. 15 on Sony Music Masterworks. Walk Into A Storm was produced by legendary music producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton\, Sturgill Simpson\, and more) and features their lead single “Time’s Always Leaving.” The trio\, featuring Zach Williams (guitar/vocals)\, Kanene Donehey Pipkin (multi-instrumentalist)\, and Brian Elmquist (guitar)\, recorded this album in only seven days. The group’s first two albums graced the Billboard 200. \n \n\nSpecial Guest – Jacob Vanko\nInstagram\nSpotify\nWebsite \n \n“When I was a kid I approached my father and asked him to teach me a song on the guitar. He taught me G\, C and D and told me he would show me a Bob Dylan song\, but only after I came up with my own chord progression. I suppose my first guitar lesson was also my first experience in writing music.” \nJacob Vanko was born and raised in the Anthracite Coal Region of the Northeast. The blue-collar\, hard working town he calls home sits nestled in a valley amid Pennsylvania’s slice of the Appalachian Mountains. Being brought up in an environment where both sides of his family were artistic and musical\, the young\, impressionable boy was constantly surrounded by an eclectic\, creative energy. Jacob would frequently sneak out of bed and peak in on his old man’s blues jams in the basement of his childhood home. His father\, a songwriter in his own right\, introduced iconic songwriters like John Prine\, Joni Mitchell\, Bruce Springsteen\, Tom Waits and Bob Dylan to his burgeoning\, songwriter son. Vanko’s musical lineage also includes figures like his grandfather on his mother’s side\, who was a local jazz drummer and his aunt on his father’s side\, who was a nationally prominent classical pianist. \n“ I used to go to those piano lessons kicking and screaming. My 8 year old brain just didn’t have a clue that I was being taught by one of the best piano teachers in the country. Now I wish I could sit with her for 5 minutes and talk about music and life. That’s what my song ‘The Garden’ is about.” \nAs a teen growing up in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s\, the raw and rebellious artist gravitated towards the furious\, dark and heavy sounds of groups like Alice in Chains\, Soundgarden\, Nirvana\, Pearl Jam and Tool. The melodic and unique sounds of grunge in all its glory with the gritty guitar tones\, aggressive vocals and well crafted songs were major contributing factors to the evolution and development of Vanko’s writing and live performance energy. “Chris Cornell (soundgarden) made me want to sing and Adam Duritz (Counting Crows) made me want to write.” \nJacob found himself coming into his own as a songwriter in his 20’s. Migrating from Pennsylvania to land in Southeast Virginia\, his life experiences to this point painted a curious picture of the world. Social observations\, the ugliness of inner struggle\, searching andquestioning brought an intense quality to his writing. The early seeds of traditional blues\, folk\, country and bluegrass have collided with the bold sounds of grunge and rock influences forging a poetic\, Americana songwriter with a furious live stage presence. \nhttps://www.wtkr.com/coast-live/local-music-spotlight-with-jacob-vanko-on-coast-live \nSpecial Guest – Taylor Ashton\nInstagram \n \nRecorded over the course of a 4\,000-mile cross-country roadtrip\, Taylor Ashton’s gorgeous new album\, Stranger To The Feeling\, is a sonic odyssey through the heart of America\, one that works way chronologically and geographically from coast to coast as it meditates on the meaning of closeness and connection. The performances are warm and inviting\, anchored by Ashton’s deft guitar and banjo work and rich\, easygoing melodicism\, and the recordings—helmed by producer Jacob Blumberg and captured with a broad range of collaborators including Courtney Hartman\, Thief’s Buck Meek\, Lake Street Dive’s Rachael Price\, Vulfpeck’s Theo Katzman\, Late Show bandleader Louis Cato\, and Mipso’s Jacob Sharp—are alternately sparse and lush\, with arrangements often serving as aural reflections of their physical environments. From a in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park to a spiritual vortex in Sedona\, AZ\, the settings are inextricable from songs\, and the result is a moving collection that manages to evoke both the gentle virtuosity Drake and the buoyant wit of Paul Simon. Born and raised in Canada\, Ashton got his start fronting the beloved Vancouver five-piece Fish & Bird. After moving to NYC\, he teamed up with Courtney Hartman for 2018’s Been On Your Side\, which Rolling Stone proclaimed “packs a punch\,” and two years later released his solo debut\, The Romantic\, earning widespread praise alongside with the likes of Sarah Jarosz\, Madison Cunningham\, The Wood Brothers\, and more

SUMMARY:Music in The Country 2024 | Briscoe with Special Guest\, Logan Vath
DESCRIPTION:General Information\n\n$35.00 per ticket in advance; $40 at the door\nChildren 12 and under are free\nGates open at 12:00\nSupport act goes on at 1:00\nHeadliner at 3:00\nFood trucks\nBYOB\nAll net proceeds benefit the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore\n\nClick Here to Purchase Tickets \nHeadliner – Briscoe\nFacebook\nTwitter\nInstagram\nYouTube\nTikTok\nWebsite \nBriscoe\, West of It All\nWest of It All\, the debut album from Americana folk-rock band Briscoe\, is a coming-of-age soundtrack set against the backdrop of the Texas Hill Country. Written in the Lone Star State and recorded in North Carolina\, it’s an album that charts its own musical geography\, with production from Grammy nominee Brad Cook (Bon Iver\, Waxahatchee\, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats) and adventurous songwriting that bridges the gap between classic American roots music and its modern-day incarnation. From free backyard performances on the outskirts of UT Austin’s campus to sold-out gigs at Antone’s Nightclub and The Continental Club Gallery\, Briscoe’s growth — like the group’s music itself — has been organic. Bandmates Truett Heintzelman and Philip Lupton built their grassroots following the old-school way: by carving out a sound that nodded to the golden era of folk\, rock\, and pop music\, then getting onstage and building a genuine relationship with their audience. That authenticity led to opening slots for Caamp and Zach Bryan. Signed by ATO Records while still pursuing undergraduate degrees as college students\, the Texas natives wrote West of It All as graduation loomed in the distance\, funneling the stories of their college experience — from heartbreak to hard-won lessons to weekend trips into the rural countryside — into a raw\, rugged blend of classic and contemporary influences. \n“Will you be content with the stories told of your days of youth to your days of old?” the bandmates sing during “The Well\,” a song that finds Briscoe negotiating the transition from adolescence to adulthood. It was during adolescence that Heintzelman and Lupton first met as teenagers at a summer camp on the outskirts of Kerrville\, Texas. “I walked into camp as a 14 year-old redheaded kid who didn’t know anybody at all\, so I just kept my eyes on the ground\,” Lupton remembers. “A couple feet away from me was another person wearing the exact same pair of Chacos as me\, and when we both looked up\, it felt like we were looking in the mirror.” Lupton and Heintzelman didn’t just look alike; they were both drawn to similar music\, too\, from golden-era folk duos like Simon & Garfunkel to 21st century torchbearers like the Avett Brothers. They hit it off immediately\, and at a talent show later that week\, the two campers performed John Prine’s “Paradise\,” laying the brickwork for the collaborative sound they’d eventually make as Briscoe. Initially formed as an outlet for Lupton’s songwriting while still in high school\, Briscoe blossomed into something bigger once the two friends reunited at UT Austin. Both were songwriters\, vocalists\, and multi-instrumentalists\, and they formed a highly-capable duo\, playing house shows and backyard parties as a two-piece act before selling out venue after venue after expanding their lineup into a proper band. They strummed acoustic guitars\, plucked banjos\, stacked their voices into harmony\, and built each song around cinematic\, cathartic hooks. Whenever writer’s block threatened their progress\, the two musicians would leave town for a few days and head west\, finding new motivation in the wilderness of the Texas Hill Country. “We have an appreciation and an awe for that place\,” says Heintzelman. “To us\, the Hill Country is one of the most beautiful places on this earth\, and it became an inspiration when we were writing these songs.” The Hill Country quickly became a pivotal part of Briscoe’s music\, influencing everything from the Wild West blues of “Hill Country Baby” to the fiddle-fueled stomp of “When the Desert.” Before long\, the guys were also making regular trips to Brad Cook’s studio in North Carolina\, where they recorded West of It All during the homestretch of their college days. Cook\, who played bass on the sessions\, encouraged the band to explore unique territory throughout. “Brad was very adamant about highlighting the parts of our sound that are different from everything else out there\,” Lupton remembers. “He’s very forward-thinking. He loves old music\, but he wants to help make the next new sound. Truett and I would come into the studio and track something\, and we’d think it sounded like a blend of several bands we love\, and Brad would say\, ‘No\, boys\, it sounds like Briscoe.'” It sounds like Briscoe\, indeed. With contributions from drummer Matt McCaughan (Bon Iver) and multi-instrumentalist Phil Cook (Megafaun\, Hiss Golden Messenger)\, West of It All offers a singular version of genre-fluid folk music. “The Well” is a rousing\, rootsy rave-up — the kind of festival-friendly song that all but demands its listener sing along — with an unexpectedly brainy core\, full of water metaphors inspired by Lupton’s bachelor’s degree in hydrogeology. “Sparrows” is a literary folk song\, its chord progression driven forward by a loping banjo pattern and its lyrics inspired by the character of Cathy Ames from John Steinbeck’s East of Eden. “Coyotes\,” one of the album’s many tributes to West Texas\, finds the two bandmates literally howling in harmony\, and “Hill Country Baby” broadens the band’s instrumental palette with alto sax and electric guitar. It’s a broad\, bold mix\, captured by two young musicians who’ve distilled the rush of early adulthood into 10 sharply-written songs. Still in their infancy as a band\, Briscoe sound fully grown on West of It All\, a self-assured album that follows no directions but its very own. \n \n  \nSpecial Guest – Logan Vath\nYouTube\nSpotify\nApple Music \n \nA native Nebraskan\, Logan Vath’s words seamlessly weave in the unique landscape of his upbringing: the still places where the Sandhills meet the plains\, and those plains cascade on to greet the Rockies. Much like this topography\, Logan’s songs often offer a stream of consciousness that ask far more questions than they do provide answers. And that is fine – because he is cripplingly indecisive. \nAfter leaving the United States Navy (a stint which found him attached to a ship that tied the Naval record for consecutive days underway)\, Logan released multiple EPs with producer Daniel Mendez (Noah Gundersen\, Dashboard Confessional\, The Native Sibling). \nSongs from those collections have found themselves on Spotify’s “Roots on the Rise” and “Fresh Folk” playlists as well as Apple’s “Breaking Singer/Songwriter.” He was awarded first place in CF Martin’s “Lifespan” songwriting competition and has performed at numerous singer/songwriter festivals\, including an invitation to The Foundation Stage at the acclaimed Newport Folk Festival in 2022. \nRecently\, Logan has largely taken time away from full-time music to settle down in Norfolk\, Virginia with his wife\, Jessica\, and their two boys. He begins 2024 with work on a forthcoming release of songs and a presence at select performances and festivals. \n \n

SUMMARY:Music in The Country Fall 2023 | Friends of the Brothers - A Celebration of the Allman Brothers Band
DESCRIPTION:General Information\n\n$35.00 per ticket in advance; $40 at the door\nChildren 12 and under are free\nGates open at 12:00\nSupport act goes on at 1:00\nHeadliner at 3:00\nFood trucks\nBYOB\nAll net proceeds benefit the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore\n\nHeadliner – Friends of the Brothers\nInstagram\nTwitter\nFacebook\nWebsite \nThe Friends of the Brothers is a celebration of the music of the Allman Brothers Band\, with members closely associated with the original band and continuing the brotherhood with passion\, committed to the ideals of every night being special and unique. Guitarist/singer Junior Mack has fronted Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band for 12 years and starred in the critically acclaimed Broadway show Lackawanna Blues. Guitarist Andy Aledort played with Dickey Betts for 12 years\, has recorded with Double Trouble and Band of Gypsys and toured with Experience Hendrix. Singer/guitarist Alan Paul is the author of One Way Out\, the definitive\, best-selling Allman Brothers Band biography based on 25 years of reporting on and interviewing the band. \nThey are often joined by singer Lamar Williams Jr.\, who is the son of the late Allman Brothers bassist and was featured in Les Brers\, featuring ABB members Butch Trucks\, Jaimoe\, Oteil Burbridge and Jack Pearson. Founding keyboardist Peter Levin toured the world with Gregg Allman for 3 years and appears on his final album\, Southern Blood. Mack\, Aledort\, Levin and Williams all performed with the Allman Brothers Band. \n“This band is based around our shared love of the Allman Brothers Band and our friendships with one another\,” says Paul. “It’s not just a gig. The music is holy to us\, but it’s also alive. We honor our friends and mentors’ legacies by investing this great music with life\, heart and passion. It’s not about copying solos\, which would be completely against the spirit the Allman Brothers had from the day Duane Allman formed the band in 1969.” \nThe group members’ first-hand experience with the Allman Brothers Band and their deep knowledge of the repertoire and the music’s roots and heritage allows them to play with an unrivaled depth. They perform songs from every stage of the Allman Brothers Band’s career\, backed by a band of inspirational\, veteran players\, drummers Dave Diamond (Zen Tricksters\, Bob Weir\, Robert Randolph) and Lee Finkelstein (Tower of Power\, Blues Brothers) and bassist Craig Privett (Half Step). \nOther Friends have included guitarists Eric Krasno\, Tash Neal (London Souls\, Amy Helm) and Brandon “Taz” Niederauer\, keyboardists Jason Crosby (Phil Lesh\, Susan Tedeschi)\, Steve Molitz (Phil Lesh\, Robby Krieger) and Ike Stubblefield (Col\, Bruce Hampton\, George Benson\, B.B. SUMMARY:Music in The Country Fall 2023 | New Potato Caboose with Special Guest\, Kendall Street Company
DESCRIPTION:General Information\n\n$35.00 per ticket in advance; $40 at the door\nChildren 12 and under are free\nGates open at 12:00\nSupport act goes on at 1:00\nHeadliner at 3:00\nFood trucks\nBYOB\nAll net proceeds benefit the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore\n\nHeadliner – New Potato Caboose\nInstagram\nTwitter\nFacebook\nTikTok\nYouTube\nSpotify \nWith almost 40 years of music bonding and bringing it all to every show\, New Potato Caboose is rolling strong with epic jamband groovy goodness. The roots of NPC stretch back to the early days of the jam scene\, sharing stages with the likes of Blues Traveler\, Widespread Panic\, Dave Matthews Band\, and legendary ground-floor acts like The Band and the Neville Brothers. As the first band ever to play the iconic Wetlands Preserve in NYC\, NPC was featured in the Sundance documentary. At one point\, the group was playing over 200 dates a year and garnering write-ups in Pollstar\, Billboard\, and Variety. They’re currently performing at outstanding venues and bringing their one of a kind live act to a fervent fan base. \nThe Caboose has just released a new album\, It Ain’t a Thing\, that captures both the band’s origins and the magic that is happening now. The album was tracked almost entirely live with the band performing all original songs as you would hear them at a live concert. You can hear the band deftly roll in influences from the party vibe of Little Feat\, the innovation of the Grateful Dead\, the shimmering vocals of CSN\, and the relatable earthiness of The Band. These elements are brought to life by the extraordinary talents of members Doug Pritchett (acoustic guitar\, vocals)\, Don Laux (rhythm guitar\, vocals)\, John “Red” Redling (keyboards\, vocals)\, Tim Pruitt (lead guitar\, vocals)\, Mike Mahoney (bass)\, and the powerful double drums sound of John Trupp and John McConnell. \nRenowned producer John Alagia (DMB\, John Mayer) was inspired to produce the project\, tapping into the music scene roots they all share. Alagia brought in a talented team from the Red Light Management/DMB family\, including engineering wizard Jeff Moxley (Blues Traveler\, Plain White T’s) and L.A. mastering ace Whynot Jansveld (The Wallflowers\, Crash Test Dummies). The band and production team lived and recorded together at Haunted Hollow\, Dave Matthews’ private studio in Charlottesville\, VA. The new album has gotten rave reviews and charted very well going up to #5 on the jambands.com radio chart and #18 on the RMR chart. This positive momentum has energized the band and their fans. \nMoving forward\, the band is excited for the future and looking forward to performing more great concerts that always deliver a wide variety of Caboose originals and select signature covers\, amazing harmonies\, melodic depth\, and killer double drum grooves. As life-long friends and accomplished musicians\, NPC always throws down next level jams. One live concert\, with a mix of New Potato Caboose originals and signature covers\, is all a music lover needs to know how truly good it feels to “Get Loose with the Caboose.” \n \n  \nSpecial Guest – Kendall Street Company\nInstagram\nFacebook\nYouTube\nSpotify \n \nVirginia’s Kendall Street Company are no strangers to having a wild time. The genre-fluid\, eclectic rock ensemble has drawn varied comparisons to the dynamic jams of Umphrey’s McGee and Widespread Panic\, songwriting prowess of John Prine\, experimental psychedelia of Pink Floyd\, progressive jazz-infused rock of Frank Zappa\, and off-color humor of Ween and They Might Be Giants. Including elements of crowd participation\, off-the-cuff comedic bits\, haphazard choreography\, musical improvisation\, and surprise musical guests\, each Kendall Street Company concert is an experience unlike any other. You’ll laugh\, you’ll cry. Just remember to stay hydrated. \nIn addition to their reputation as must-see live performers\, the Company’s prolific immunity to writer’s block has led them to release over 100 original songs between seven studio albums\, two live albums\, and four EPs in a period of just six years. 2023 will see the release of (at least) an additional two studio records\, a handful of singles\, and who knows what else! You can also enjoy a massive selection of live shows here and nugs.net. These often include unreleased and improvised tracks\, as well as covers ranging from the Grateful Dead to DEVO to Alanis Morisette to Soulja Boy. With a full in-ear monitor and multitrack recording rig built\, the band continues to capture the moments that mean the most to fans. With this new tech\, the band also has plans to incorporate scenic recording sessions to feature on social media\, such as our first attempt: “Live From the Foothills” in Fort Collins\, CO. Stay tuned for much more of these novelty shows. \nKendall Street Company is: Louis Smith [Rhythm Guitar/Lead Vox]\, Brian Roy [Bass]\, Ryan Wood [Drums]\, Ben Laderberg [Lead Guitar]\, and Jake Vanaman [Saxophone/Keys]. The five met at the University of Virginia\, where they graduated between 2015 and 2020. For such a young band\, their accomplishments are commendable. They have performed at festivals including Lockn’\, Summer Camp\, High Sierra\, Resonance\, Floydfest\, Some Kind of Jam\, and Rooster Walk. Featured guest musicians at their sets have included Keller Williams\, Ron Holloway\, Andy Frasco\, and Andy Hall. The Company has also shared the stage with Goose\, Umphrey’s McGee\, Papadosio\, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong\, Leftover Salmon\, the Infamous Stringdusters\, Big Something and Melvin Seals & JGB. The outfit draws their name from late-night bonfires at the Kendall Street Beach on the Chesapeake Bay\, and the good company who fueled the flames\, the jams\, and the conversation.

SUMMARY:Music in The Country Fall 2022 - Eric Hutchinson with Special Guest\, Allen Hudson and the Halfmoons
DESCRIPTION:Eric Hutchinson\n\n\n\nSing Along! with Eric Hutchinson \nThe inspiration for Eric Hutchinson’s new group sing-along album dawned on him one night during lockdown\, while he was belting out “The Wheels On The Bus” at the dinner table for the umpteenth time with his toddler daughter. \n“Kids songs can get a bit… mind-numbing\,” the veteran singer/songwriter says with a smile. “But that night\, I was watching my daughter light up as she was happily singing and clapping\, and it struck me that our first musical instruments are our hands and our voices. I started thinking about the joy that comes from singing in a group\, all together as one.” Suddenly\, Eric was thinking about making music for everybody to sing along with\, not just kids. \nThe result: SING ALONG! with Eric Hutchinson – six new\, original\, gospel-inspired folk and protest songs that feel instantly timeless. “I believe that anybody with a voice can sing\,” Eric says. “Using your voice is powerful and the fun of making music and singing together in harmony can be universally healing and unifying. It’s been a hard few years for everyone. Since I was a kid\, what I’ve always done to heal in any times of distress\, was to sing.” \nSING ALONG! with Eric Hutchinson is the artist’s eighth studio release and his first new work since the fierce global reckoning with racism that was illuminated by the historic actions of the Black Lives Matter movement. “I grew up in a diverse suburb of Washington D.C.\, surrounded by people of all colors\, speaking multiple languages\,” Eric says. “So I was ashamed to learn how many blind spots I still have. The past few years have opened my eyes\, in new ways\, to how so many people\, especially those of color\, are marginalized and robbed of their basic civic rights.” \nEric’s new collection of songs touch on togetherness\, tolerance\, inclusivity\, progress\, and justice. “These themes felt like the only thing I could possibly write about right now\,” he says. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nSongs like “Everybody’s Gotta Beating Heart” and “Right Side of History” are melodious folk– soul grooves that find Eric examining our basic rights as human beings\, and what our personal actions mean in the long-term. “The Littlest Candle” and “Hey Look I Found It! (My Inner Peace)” are joyful tracks\, meant to inspire and build up the listener toward progress. “Pick Up The Pace” is a witty protest song about the realities of climate change. The album closer “Sing Along With Me”\, is a simple\, soulful ode to the power of singing when nothing seems to be going your way. \nTogether\, the songs create a guiding force that is schooled in the traditions of American folk music. SING ALONG! was heavily inspired by Black artists like Sister Rosetta Tharpe\, Big Bill Broonzy and Elizabeth Cotten\, as well as the recorded works of Alan Lomax\, an American ethnomusicologist\, best known for his numerous field recordings\, which played an important role in preserving the folk music traditions of the early 20th century. \n“I kept noticing how little the job description of a folk singer has changed in a century\,” Eric notes. “These artists were talking about the same timeless themes that still haunt our culture – race and injustice\, love\, and peace. I was inspired to try writing songs that were bigger than me\, and that could be performed specifically by a group of people that I could be a part of.” \nIn early 2022\, Eric assembled an elite and diverse eight-member band of musicians to perform and record his new project\, live in the studio. He recruited Clyde Lawrence on keys\, Ian Allison on bass\, Jimmy Coleman on percussion and Wayne Tucker on trumpet\, plus vocalists Caleb Hawley\, Melanie Nyema\, and Veronica Frommer-Stewart. The group united in NYC’s Lower East Side\, in the middle of a blizzard\, to make music in person\, together\, and document the party. “I was determined to make the album totally live and with no headphones. Just musicians in a room\, making music together. A very antique idea these days\,” Eric says with a laugh. “I loved the idea of setting up a few microphones and recording something live and true – with no edits\, no tricks\, and nowhere to hide as a songwriter and a performer.” \nFor good measure\, a camera crew was brought in and filmed the recordings so that listeners can also watch the entire album being made and performed. “There was a lot of planning and Zoom rehearsal before the recording session. The Omicron surge made everything more complicated\, but when we finally arrived all together in the studio\, it was magical\,” Eric recalled. “It was the best time and it went by in a blur. I kept having to force myself to take a breath and really revel in the moments and the energy of all these wonderful people who had agreed to help me create new music. My friend Mike was there and he described it as ‘happiness\, recorded.’” \nThe songwriting and musicianship of SING ALONG! continues Eric’s recent trend of exploring across musical genres\, as he tries to make sense of the world around him. After his \n\n\n\n\n\n\nearly pop escapades\, including his 2008 debut Sounds Like This\, (which featured his gold record single “Rock & Roll”) and 2014’s Pure Fiction\, his more recent releases have experimented with Americana-soul (2018’s Modern Happiness)\, alternative rock (2020’s Class of 98)\, and jazz (2021’s Before & After Life). “I love all kinds of music\,” Eric says. “I think every genre has something interesting and special to celebrate.” \nEric hopes that his new songs and his own examination of his place in this world will inspire others to look inward and at the community around them. “I don’t claim to have the answers and I know that my music won’t solve our problems\,” he says. “But I am hopeful these songs will lift the listener\, and invite the listener to celebrate diversity\, look around at the injustices currently present in life\, and question how he\, she or they might make even the smallest difference in the name of good.”  \n\n\n\n \n  \nSpecial Guest – Allen Hudson and the Halfmoons\nAllen Hudson and the Halfmoons are a freshly formed alternative rock band from southeastern Virginia. Hudson spent the last 5 years co-fronting the power pop outfit Court Street Company. The Halfmoons are comprised of members from other notable bands from the Hampton Roads region\, like Paper Aliens & Fox and the Bear. \nThe septet’s sound exists somewhere between the wistful alternative stylings of Arcade Fire\, and the strutting\, new wave inspired rock of The Killers; all colliding with Hudson’s unyielding devotion for guitar-driven Power Pop. \n \nThe band’s debut single “Summer Lovers” is out now. \n \nGeneral Info:\n\n$35.00 per ticket\nChildren 12 and under are free\nGates open at 12:00\nSupport act goes on at 1:00\nHeadliner at 3:00\nFood trucks\nBYOB\n\nAll net proceeds benefit CHKD’s Lighting the Way for Mental Health Initiative

SUMMARY:Music in The Country Fall 2022 - Cris Jacobs Band with Special Guest\, Celeste Kellogg
DESCRIPTION:Cris Jacobs Band\nCris Jacobs – Dust to Gold \nWhether alone with just the guitar and his voice or surrounded by a full band\, Cris Jacobs enchants listeners with his inspired\, poignant songwriting\, virtuous guitar playing\, and soulfully transcendent voice. Artists across the board have discovered Jacobs’ musicianship and supple versatility\, resulting in an impressive variety of formats in which he has played over the last few years. After a decade\, five records\, and 200 shows a year as principal songwriter and frontman for beloved Baltimore-based band\, The Bridge\, from 2001 – 2011\, Jacobs wasted no time continuing to write music of his own and exploring different configurations for his craft. He released his debut solo album\, Songs for Cats and Dogs\, in 2012 and continued to perform relentlessly\, both with his new band and as a solo artist. In doing so\, he quickly garnered the admiration of a variety of predecessors and peers: rock legend Steve Winwood saw Jacobs perform in 2014 and soon invited him to open his national tour. The following year\, Sturgil Simpson extended the same invitation. Never limited by genre\, Jacobs and New Orleans heavyweight Ivan Neville recorded a collaborative album under the band name “Neville Jacobs\,” which was released in 2017. As an adapting\, evolving\, versatile musician who has survived on his own merit\, Jacobs continues to win over audiences of many tastes\, as he brings his characteristic authenticity and soul to every set. \nJacobs feels there are common threads across many genres of music\, and he has harnessed over a decade of trans-genre exploration on his second solo album\, Dust to Gold\, released on October 21st\, 2016\, from American Showplace Music. The album is a soul-stirring expression of the current chapter of his creative evolution\, featuring twelve well-crafted songs that masterfully weave through the sweet and rugged landscape of soul\, country\, folk\, blues\, gospel\, and rock and roll. Through every turn\, one can easily feel Jacobs’ reverence to his influences\, but the result is an original eclectic record with a sound that is authentically his. In a given moment\, Jacobs’ guitar playing is gritty\, soulful\, rich\, and lyrical. It’s subtle yet adventurous. His voice is at once sweet and sultry\, with a honeyed whiskey croon that delivers his thoughtful\, expressive lyrics. \nI know that the well I seek is bound to be the deepest of all been ever told\nI know that to plant a seed is alchemy\, we can watch the dust turn into gold \nSo sings the hypnotic refrain in “Turn Into Gold\,” a meditative slide-guitar rocker where Jacobs sings about channeling the muse\, or “tapping the source\,” as he calls it. It’s about the desire to be “enraptured in the mystery\, the unknown\, the questions\, the answers all at once\,” Jacobs describes. This is the place in which his songwriting occurs\, and from where Jacobs’ performances derive so much electricity. In discussing the song’s inspiration\, Jacobs reflects\, “if I’m playing or singing and I’m really connected to that source and I’m really locked in and there’s a room full of people experiencing that\, the hope is then for them to get locked into their own thing\, and it’s this beautiful\, ecstatic magic that happens. To me\, this is that elusive goal that I chase every time I sit down to write a song or every time I get on the stage to perform.” \nOther songs on Dust to Gold paint Jacobs’ desire to express the beauty and struggle of the human condition. In “Cold Carolina\,” Jacobs pleads softly and emotively about a despondent relationship\, the feeling of displacement\, and the seeking of redemption\, of salvation. In “Little Dreamer\,” Jacobs\, accompanied by his wife\, Kat Jacobs\, sings sweetly to their unborn child\, whom he discovered was on the way only moments before leaving to start recording the album. “It’s a blink of an eye\, this life / tiny grains in sands of time / so tie your purposes on wings and fly to the heavens with the grace and courage of a thousand kings\,” he sings to the tiny\, nascent being. \nThe opening track\, “The Devil or Jesse James\,” is a rousing mixture of New Orleans rhythm\, blues\, and rock and roll with ethereal tendrils of psychedelic guitar reaching out across the soundscape; painting a tale of a man trying to change identities and run away from one’s past. On the album\, the full band includes a richly funky rhythm section\, featuring Todd Herrington on bass\, Dusty Ray Simmons on drums\, as well as John Ginty on Hammon organ and keyboards\, who has been a master side man for years\, working with Robert Randolph and the Family Band\, Jewel\, Citizen Cope; and most currently tours with the Dixie Chicks. \nThough “Dust to Gold” clearly showcases Jacobs’ well-worn songwriting chops\, he is an improviser at heart\, and he brings the spirit of seeking and living in the moment to the stage each time. In every performance\, he tries to push the envelope\, exploring the depth of each song anew. Whether live or on the album\, Jacobs’ dynamic voice and guitar envelop the listener completely and instantly\, transporting you into the rich\, sultry folds of his soulful sound. \nCris Jacobs continues to nurture a devoted audience that knows that whatever the instrumentation or setting he plays\, it will be richly authentic\, and conveyed with an improviser’s curious spirit and palpable presence. We can only expect further evolution from Jacobs\, an artist constantly inspired by the search for “those beautiful\, sad\, inspiring\, heartbreaking magical corners of life.” \nJacobs notes\, “the most rewarding\, and terrifying part of trying to be an artist is the journey itself\, the vulnerability and riskiness in seeking them out\, trying to express them. Sometimes you hit dead ends\, and sometimes you strike pure gold.” \n \n\nSpecial Guest – Celeste Kellogg\nCeleste Kellogg is a Nashville/CMA/songwriter/recording artist. \nAs an indie artist\, Celeste has released two songs to country radio: “Country Swagger” & “There’s a Beach Somewhere.” Both singles charted on the Music Row Country Airplay chart with the latter placing in the top 40. \nSpotify recognized “There’s a Beach Somewhere”\, putting it on their “New Music Nashville” & “Fresh Finds: Country” playlists. \nCMT recognized both music videos by featuring “Country Swagger” on their front page & featuring “There’s a Beach Somewhere” on CMT’s Next Up Now. \n \nCeleste’s current EP is titled “Keep It on Repeat.”  Upon its release\, Spotify included the single\, “Ladidada\,” on its “New Music Nashville playlist. CMT featured the song on its playlists “The Roundup” and “Next Women of Country Music.” “There’s a Beach Somewhere\,” the first single from the album\, is currently being featured on Spotify’s “Gulf and Western” playlist. \nThe new EP proves to be Celeste’s best work yet. The EP was produced by Sal Oliveri\, producer of Pink & Chris Stapleton’s song\, “Love Me Anyways.” Playing guitar on two of the tracks is Danny Rader\, Keith Urban’s touring guitarist. Playing fiddle on another track is Jenee Fleenor\, Blake Shelton’s fiddle player and CMA musician of the year\, who Celeste has worked with in the past. With the exception of two tracks that Celeste wrote by herself\, the other 3 were co-written with CCMA songwriter of the year\, Aaron Goodvin. \nUpon its release\, “Keep It on Repeat\,” charted on iTunes in multiple countries. So far it has peaked at #48 in the United States\, #44 in the United Kingdom\, #95 in Canada and #12 in Finland to name a few. \nCeleste’s current social numbers are just under 200\,000. \n \n\nGeneral Info:\n\n$35.00 per ticket\nChildren 12 and under are free\nGates open at 12:00\nSupport act goes on at 1:00\nHeadliner at 3:00\nFood trucks\nBYOB\n\nAll net proceeds benefit CHKD’s Lighting the Way for Mental Health Initiative

SUMMARY:Music in The Country Fall 2022 - Tuesday’s Gone with Special Guest\, Doc Straw and the Scarecrows
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday’s Gone\nTuesday’s Gone – The Ultimate Tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd formed in 2005 in Raleigh\, NC. \n \nThey are dedicated to reproducing the original sound of one of the greatest and most legendary bands of all time.  For Tuesday’s Gone\, it’s much more than just performing the music.  They are the absolute closest you could hope to see and hear paying tribute to the legacy of one of the most respected\, loved\, and missed bands of all time. From the signature Skynyrd sound\, to the sheer raw power that the original band possessed\, to the unmistakable look that they had\, Tuesday’s Gone has every base covered. \nOver the course of over a decade of touring Tuesday’s Gone have performed live at many of the premier venues in the country (The House Of Blues\, The Filmore\, The Ritz)\, casinos (The Golden Nugget\, Maryland Live! Casino\, Rocky Gap Casino Resort\, Sugarhouse Casino Philadelphia)\, & major events such as the “NC Azalea Festival”\, “Sandstock Festival”\, “Budweiser Block Party / Charlotte Motor Speedway”\, in addition to countless bike weeks and festivals. \n \n\nSpecial Guest – Doc Straw and the Scarecrows\nDoc Straw & the Scarecrows are an alternative Southern Rock & Roll group in Virginia led by songwriter Mike Straw. Straw is joined in the studio by lead guitarist Vaughn Thomas\, bass guitarist Shelton Sprouse and keyboardist Taylor Bess. Musically and lyrically\, this artist is about authenticity\, musical flow and potent lyricism touching on themes of resilience in facing life’s enduring challenges. \n \nMike is a combat vet who’s now a doctor of physical therapy. He’s been writing songs and playing in bands since middle school. He is from Gainesville\, FL (Tom Petty’s hometown) but grew up in a little town called High Springs. Mike’s undergrad was at UF and he joined the Army as a combat engineer because he wanted to serve his country after 9/11. \n“I did a tour in Iraq mostly in Fallujah then Kirkuk. In between tours an army buddy and I started a band\, Pilly Wete\, and I think music really helped me in those days. A few years later I went to Afghanistan in Kunar province. Both tours we conducted route clearance (driving around clearing roadside bombs). After Afghanistan a lot changed for me: I got out of the Army\, went back to school\, stopped making music\, and started having a tough time with mental health. All of these things seem to compound the significance of the others. Last year I completed my doctorate in physical therapy and that education was so helpful not just for the career but because it taught me about the body\, brain\, and changes we undergo when subjected to stressful experiences/environments. Since school I’ve been focusing on being the best version of myself and part of that has been resuming music.” \nMike has planned\, written\, and recorded a full Doc Straw & the Scarecrows album\, ‘The Little Things’ released in May 2022. \nWith the introspective single “Get On By” the inspiration comes directly from real life experience\, real life struggles universal to all of us. \n“I wrote this song after getting off of a 3-hour long phone conversation with my sister\, Jessica\, and a lot of our conversation that evening  centered around some of the tougher things in life and how we were dealing with these struggles. If a person lives long enough then at some point they will experience these trying seasons. I’ve learned that it’s important to pay attention during those times because that is when we have some of the best opportunities to grow.” \nFollow Doc Straw & the Scarecrows at Docstrawandthescarecrows.com. \nGeneral Info:\n\n$35.00 per ticket\nChildren 12 and under are free\nGates open at 12:00\nSupport act goes on at 1:00\nHeadliner at 3:00\nFood trucks\nBYOB\n\nAll net proceeds benefit CHKD’s Lighting the Way for Mental Health Initiative

SUMMARY:Music in The Country Fall 2022 - The Bones of J.R Jones with Special Guest\, Jonah Ross
DESCRIPTION:The Bones of J.R. Jones\, A Celebration\nOver the course of three full-length albums and two EPs\, Jonathon Robert Linaberry — the songwriter\, storyteller\, visual artist\, and one-man band behind The Bones of J.R. Jones — has woven his own tapestry of American roots music. It’s a classic sound for the modern world\, influenced not only by blues\, soul\, and forward-thinking folk\, but also by J.R.’s environment. From the bustle of New York City\, where he launched The Bones of J.R. Jones with 2012’s The Wildness\, to the rustic solitude of his current home in the Catskills\, J.R. has always looked to the world around him for inspiration. Few places have left him feeling as inspired as the American Southwest\, an area whose desert panoramas and infinite horizons inspired the songs on his newest release\, A Celebration. Written during trips to Tucson\, Bisbee\, Joshua Tree\, and other desert destinations\, the six-song EP is everything its title promises: a celebration of the thrill of getting lost in something new\, whether it’s a landscape\, a sound\, a perspective\, or all of the above. The most compelling artists among us don’t replicate their past; instead\, they evolve. A Celebration marks a new stage in The Bones of J.R. Jones’ own evolution\, fusing the songwriter’s southern gothic sound — a sound rooted in acoustic instruments and J.R.’s woozy vocals — with drum machines\, analog synths\, vibraphone\, and the rich\, dark tones of a Magnatone amplifier. The songs were recorded quickly\, in a series of first takes and instinctual performances\, with J.R. playing nearly every instrument himself. The result is an organic record with an electric pulse — a collection of music that\, like the region that inspired it\, is familiar one minute and otherworldly the next. “During our honeymoon\, my wife and I disappeared into the desert and rented a house in the middle of an open\, vast plain\,” J.R. remembers. “No one was around us for miles\, which is a feeling that’s hard to come by when you’re from the northeast. \n \nThe songwriting on A Celebration is rooted in the vulnerability that comes from being out there\, being exposed to this infinite emptiness\, especially as the night comes in and the colors change\, or as you watch a thunderstorm blowing in from 20 miles away. That kind of insignificance allows for a sort of freedom\, and I wanted to embrace it.” Slide guitar riffs and digital snare hits share the spotlight on the song’s atmospheric opener\, “Stay Wild.” An ambient field recording of street life in an Arizona border town — captured by J.R. during his visit — fills “Keep it Low” with the moody sounds of barking dogs and singing locals. Harmonies are stacked three voices high on “Like an Old Lover\,” a sparse track that’s equal parts old-time gospel ballad and new-world folksong. Tying everything together are vivid performances from J.R.\, who confidently blurs the boundaries between genre and generation. One minute\, he’s a pre-war troubadour on the corner of some dusty southwestern street\, strumming songs on his Dean resonator. The next\, he’s a 21st century man with a drum machine\, a Jupiter-8 synth\, and a Kalamazoo guitar\, creating a Nebraska-worthy collection of songs about the territories that moved him. “The record’s essence was shaped by those beautiful desert nights and the roads that go on endlessly\,” says J.R. “There’s so much space out there. When making A Celebration\, I wanted to keep things stripped-back in terms of orchestration\, arrangement\, and the number of players on the record. It gave me a chance to really embrace that space.” A Celebration’s cover art — with its western color palette\, desert iconography\, and black-and-white photograph of wild animals — was handmade by J.R.\, who also created a series of accompanying prints. The goal\, he says\, is to embrace every aspect of the musical experience\, creating an immersive world for his audience. In that sense\, A Celebration does more than shine a light on the American southwest — it highlights J.R.’s ability to the bridge the gap between artistic disciplines. \n \nSpecial Guest – Jonah Ross\n \nJonah Ross is a singer/songwriter from Norfolk\, Virginia. An east coast native with a west coast vibe\, he combines 60s and 70s folk\, country and soft rock style with early 2000s acoustic pop to deliver tightly crafted\, personal narratives. On his debut EP\, “These Days\,” he explores the strange process of growing older\, how to move forward after losing someone you love and finding optimism in challenging times.

SUMMARY:Music in the Country\, 2022 – People on the Porch with Special Guest\, Fox & the Bear
DESCRIPTION:People on the Porch (Jeremy Sayne – Vocals and Guitar\, Danny Elson – Vocals and Banjo\, David Cloud – Electric Bass/Upright Bass\, Becca Wolfe – Violin\, and Greg McGinnis -Drums) from Franklin TN\, are an Americana/folk-rock band that gracefully merges genres in an effortless manner\, while spreading their message of hope\, truth\, and love. Band members have inspirations from bands like The Avett Brothers\, Pink Floyd\, Simon and Garfunkel\, and The Everly Brothers\, among many others.  POTP dropped their first full length effort in September 2019\, titled ‘Gray Line’ which was produced\, engineered\, and recorded by Mike Marsh of The Avett Brothers.  Also\, they have released a self-titled 5 song EP and a 5 song LIVE performance album in 2017. They have played shows all over Tennessee\, from East to West\, hitting some of the hottest live music venues in the state. POTP have also appeared in the festival scene\, from Columbia’s Muletown Music Fest and Franklin’s PumpkinFest to the popular Pilgrimage Music and Cultural Festival. They credit their ever-growing fan base\, and exposure to the opportunities given to them from The Legendary Kimbro’s Pickin Parlor\, where they held a monthly residency for over 4 years. So the story goes…. Back to high school for Jeremy and Danny. The two first met early in their high school days and became friends immediately. Both had a major love for singing and music in general. Singing Tenor 1 and Tenor 2 in their High School elite singing group known as “Singers”\, it was there that they developed their tight harmonies. Ten years later (2013) they reunited\, both now having families. Life experiences were shared and emotions high and low were felt. Traumatic\, Impressive\, and Hilarious\, are words that best fit that reunion. Two years of constant songwriting and arrangement made for some very emotional driven series of songs that makes you feel alive!  Although still very young as a band\, when they hit the stage they deliver a powerful live show with an energy that thrills the people in attendance\, from all ages new to old!  And by the way\, they feel right at home on the porch too. \n \n \nGeneral Info\n\n$35.00 per ticket\nChildren 12 and under are free\nGates open at 12:00\nSupport act goes on at 1:00\nHeadliner at 3:00\nFood trucks\nBYOB\n\nAll net proceeds benefit CHKD’s Lighting the Way for Mental Health Initiative
