Care is QUALITY
We at River Road Farm strive each day to give our cattle the best life. We believe that care is quality. You can taste it in the first bite. There is a symbiotic relationship between our animals and the land on which they graze. The success of both animal and land is dependent on the other; because of this relationship both cow and earth flourish.
Our COWS
Our primary concern is giving our animals the best care available on our farm and adhering to our principles. We have chosen to breed Devon/Angus cattle, because they not only thrive on a grass-fed program, but their meat is more marbled and flavorful than other breeds. What cows can eat on feedlots is alarming—it can include anything from grains to candy. This, in turn, leads to sick cows and a buildup of E. coli in their systems, which results in the rampant use of antibiotics. A diet that consists of a variety of grasses, however, is consistent with what cows are meant to ingest, and, Benjack says, yields heart-healthier meat.
Our LAYING HENS
We also raise various breeds of laying hens, which benefit from the same natural and ethical principles by which we raise our cows. Their natural life results in the most vibrant, flavorful eggs you’ll ever see and taste.
